Getting Involved

There's a lot happening in Smokefree/Auahi Kore and everyone can be involved!

As a community we can all be a part of smokefree activities.  Think about:

  • running a Smokefree event

  • talking to your local council about smokefree parks

  • writting letters to the editor of your local newpaper or your MP

  • making your house and car smokefree

  • encouraging your local marae to be totally smokefree.

Everyone can be a leader.

If you're keen to get involved, HSC developed a tool kit in 2010 to provide an introduction, support, ideas and planning tools for people working in tobacco control.

Events like Matariki and World Smokefree Day, are great opportunities for the community to come together to plan and run activities.

If you're involved in the health sector there are a number of workshops and conferences you can participate in.

If you want to be involved but are not sure who to talk to, check out this map of smokefree contacts or this list of public health units around New Zealand.

Together we can create a Smokefree New Zealand.
